You can try your hand at creating your own website. There are plenty of templates to use, but do you know how to use them? Why not let us design a site for you that truly reflects your work?
Unless you have several books published already or have different areas of your professional life to promote along with your writing, you don't need anything more than a simple site and ways to drive eyes to it. You need something that can expand over time as you grow as an author and/or speaker (or other profession). You need a site that can showcase video and audio clips, images, your blogging efforts, links to your book(s) and easy links to your social media pages. You would be wise if content were SEO-driven and have links to outside pages, sites and information. Beyond that, there are other things you can do. However, if you are on a tight budget, you need to make your simple site work hard for you. There are ways to do that… even if you try your hand at building a site yourself. That's another area where we would tell you that if you don't have the skill set to create a good-looking and functional site, hire someone. If not us, hire someone who knows his/her stuff. Again, the site doesn't need to be complicated. It needs to get the point across and it needs to be engaging.
Add video. At least one clip. Why? Conversion. Did you know that customers looking at two sites of similar nature will convert to a buyer more often when the website has video on the home page? Or at least somewhere on the site that makes sense. For the sake of argument, let's talk about two authors in the romance genre. They are both very good writers and they have a following. They both come out with a series of books around the same time and their readership is very similar. Again, for the sake of argument, let's say that the sites are very similar. What would make a looky-loo convert to a buyer of the books being offered? Video. Book Trailer(s). Statistically, and this was a few years ago, there is a conversion rate of about 65% from browser to buyer when there is a video in place. Food for thought.
